Penn PPT Surf Rods

A combination of Neil ’s vast experience plus our own engineers ’expertise in design and materials has enabled us to produce a rod that suits his legendary smooth casting style. People want the rods Neil uses, so we set up Penn Performance Tackle and put him to work. He has come up with a pair of rods for field casting, plus a specialist surf rod. Here is a range of purpose designed specialist rods hand made in the USA.They do a job with as little fuss as possible while offering performance only limited by your own ability. They will enable you to get out what you put in without drama. Proven performance on the field and beach is now available at a tackle shop near you.

Penn 14ft Tournament Pendulum Rods This is the rod Neil uses on the tournament field. At 14ft it is designed for pendulum casting with a multiplier reel mounted low down on the butt. The latest skirted coasters over shrink tube hold it all in place. High stand off lined rings positioned along the blank offer the minimum of resistance to line running through them. It has a smooth action that works best with a progressive build up and works well with both 150g and 175g weights. Its firm action will also handle the lighter 125g leads popular today.
Penn 14ft 3in Tournament Ground Casting Rods Becoming very popular, ground casting styles allows the lead to be placed in exactly the same position time after time. However, without the early compression created by a moving lead the tip needs to be firmer to keep control of the lead. Consequently the butt section needs to be less rigid to allow the rod to be compressed progressively. This combination of a firm action tip and mellow butt offers a huge performance potential without compromise, the ideal ground casting rod.
Penn 13ft 6in Sidewinder Surf Rods Based on a detuned version of the Long Pendulum tip, here is a rod offering all the performance you are ever likely to need from a beach rod where distance is the name of the game. Similar technology is also incorporated into the slim butt section to allow some margin for error on a wet and windy shelving beach. Rung for a low mounted multiplier. The firm tip section will hold its own in a good tide run, bending progressively further into the rod without collapsing to offer good bite detection in severe conditions.
